 Here are some key attendance facts about Hillsborough Stadium (home of Sheffield Wednesday):

• Record Attendance:

• 72,841 – Sheffield Wednesday vs. Wolverhampton Wanderers, FA Cup Fifth Round, 17 February 1934.

(This is still the highest attendance ever recorded at Hillsborough.)

• Modern Capacity:

• Today, Hillsborough’s capacity is about 39,732 (after being an all-seater stadium post-1990s safety reforms).

• Hillsborough Disaster:

• On 15 April 1989, during an FA Cup semi-final between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest, a tragic crush in the Leppings Lane end resulted in the deaths of 97 Liverpool fans.
